How to Be Creative

To be creative, you start with a vision or idea. Something needs to be imagined in order for it to be created. [edit: keywords to keep in mind will be in bold!]

You may have the vision of making a tower out of wooden sticks, or a desire to film a long video on bugs. Brainstorm a list of ideas of things you’d like to create, and pick one or two to start.

Next, you need a medium. A medium is a tool used to create something. For artists, that’s a pencil or paintbrush and paint. For an engineer, that may be a pencil and a scale. It is a tool that helps to bring something into being, whatever it may be.

An idea and tools alone won’t help you to create. If you want to make something, like an engine, you’ll need the actual materials to make it right? Materials like some metal, wood, and special screws and bolts will probably be needed.

Then, the making process happens. You’ll need to make sure that you have the skills in order to make the thing you envisioned or imagined in your head. All these things are normal, and are part of the creative process. Engage in as much research and learning as you can.

Sometimes, you’ll need to plan out some action steps in advance in order to make the project run smoothly. You might also need to draw out some designs to help you visualize your creation better.

There are more things to consider in the creative process, but hopefully this will get you started. Give it some time. If you fail, you can always try again to get it right!
